Have you seen it? Here's why a helicopter is circling a hot-air balloon in Gloucestershire skies
Filming for a major new movie starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones is taking place in the skies above Gloucestershire today.
A hot air balloon has been seen above the Forest of Dean and Newent after taking off from the Chase Hotel in Ross-on-Wye.
A helicopter has also been circling the balloon to get aerial shots for The Aeronauts, an Amazon film that reunites Redmayne and Jones after they worked on the film, The Theory of Everything about the life of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.
Social media has been awash with pictures of the balloon and helicopter and we are grateful for people allowing us to use their images.
A spokesman at The Chase Hotel said: “They are filming a period film set in the 1860s.
“They have been taking off to get some aerial shots, but no actors have been here.
"They will be back again tomorrow."
On Thursday morning, the balloon had been seen over Strawberry Hill in Newent, over Mitcheldean and in the air above Ross-on-Wye.
Eye-witnesses reported the balloon dropping ballast, indicating it is a gas balloon.
There had been speculation about what they are filming, with work on the fifth series of Poldark taking place in Gloucestershire, as well as filming for His Dark Materials having taken place in the county, as well as in Wales.

According to IMDb, The Aeronauts is about pilot Amelia Wren (Jones) and scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) who find themselves in an epic fight for survival while attempting to make discoveries in a hot air balloon.
Some filming with the two leads in a balloon has already been completed, Variety reports.
Producer Todd Lieberman told the magazine: “We’re fortunate that Felicity and Eddie have the nerve to do these stunts themselves as it authenticates our entire approach.
“We intend to do as much balloon filming in the sky as the weather will allow.
"The image [above] was taken after we launched Felicity and Eddie 2,000 feet in the air, performing their scripted scene, while a helicopter captured it all."

Redmayne will shortly be seen in the next Harry Potter prequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, while Jones, who starred in Star Wars prequel Rogue One, will be seen in On the Basis of Sex, about Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her struggle for equal rights to become a US Supreme Court Justice.
